Spring Cleaning Tips from S&A Homes

Spring Cleaning Tips from S&A HomesSpring is finally here and with the weather warmup comes the itch to throw the windows open and refresh the inside of your home after a cold winter! Spring cleaning checklists can easily become overwhelming, so before jumping into the deep end of deep cleaning your entire home, dip a toe in with these five spring cleaning tips from S&A Homes:

  1. Declutter Your Life

Clutter is defined as “a collection of things lying about in an untidy mess,” and spring cleaning presents the perfect opportunity to not only reduce clutter but reorganize to prevent its return! A simple rule to follow: if you haven’t used something in the past six months, it might be time to get rid of it. This rule of thumb can even be applied to your closet with the Reverse Hanger Hack.

  1. Clean Carpet is Happy Carpet

Wear and tear on carpets is not as easily noticed in comparison to the result of a spill or accident, but over time dirt, dust and hair build up, especially in high-traffic areas like bedrooms and dining areas.

If hiring a professional service to deep clean carpets or purchasing a high-performance vacuum cleaner or steamer is not an option, there are still solutions to give your carpets some extra love! Check out some of our favorite baking soda solutions here – perfect for pet odors, greasy or non-greasy stains and more!

  1. All About That Baseboard

Baseboards are often neglected when it comes to regular vacuuming and day-to-day cleaning, but now is the time to give them some extra attention! Begin by removing any hair or loose dirt from the baseboards with a small brush or vacuum, then dampen a small area at a time and wipe with a towel or magic sponge eraser. Fill a bucket with warm soapy water to rinse your towel or sponge between sections. Finally, let the baseboards completely air dry, then wipe them down with a fabric softener sheet! This keeps hair and dirt from sticking back to the baseboards.

  1. Dishwash Germs Away

Did you know your dishwasher can clean more than dishes? From children’s toys and sponges to silicone hot plates and silk flowers, your dishwasher can do a little more to pull its weight around the house! Keep in mind though, only sturdy, heavy-duty items should go in the bottom rack. If there is ever a question, opt for the top rack. 1. Give Your Linens a Recharge

Bed sheets and towels can accrue a layer of buildup from not only detergents and fabric softeners, but sweat, too! Recharge your linens by washing them once with hot water and 1 cup of vinegar, then again with hot water and a half cup of baking soda. You will immediately notice a difference and towels will be more absorbent

While there are a multitude of tasks to be accomplished for a completely refreshed home, we hope this list is a helpful starting point that puts a little spring in your step. Happy cleaning!
