We may be biased, but we think autumn in Pennsylvania is the best. From the rich colors in the fall foliage to the crisp feeling in the air, there isn’t anywhere else we’d rather be. With Halloween just a couple of weeks away, celebrate this season with family and friends and some of these great events.

Here’s a brief list of fun autumn-themed events happening near our Central and South Central PA new home communities:

State College & Bellefonte

The Punkin’ Chunkin’ Fall Festival is a fun, one-day festival in Howard, PA benefitting the Howard Fire Company #14. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, October 21st at Bald Eagle State Park. Enjoy live music, various food and craft vendors, fun activities like hayrides and a pie eating contest, and, of course, some punkin’ chunkin’ machines! Admission and parking are free.
Chambersburg

AppleFest is a Franklin County tradition! Bring the family to enjoy art, food, crafts, live music on two stages, kids’ activities and carnival rides in beautiful downtown Chambersburg. Many downtown businesses will also offer specials during the festival that you won’t want to miss. Applefest is happening on Saturday, October 21st from 9AM – 4PM. Admission is free.

Gettysburg

Enjoy the crisp autumn air and fall foliage in a couple of different ways. Hollabaugh’s Guided Wagon Tour winds through Hollabaugh’s beautiful farm and orchards in Biglerville. Following the tour, stop by the farm’s market for apples, freshly baked goods, and more. If a train is more your speed, enjoy a 2.5-hour trip on the York County Rail Trail. Listen to the narrator share the history of the town and villages along the way.

The Annual Olde Getty Place Gettysburg Halloween Parade is on Tuesday, October 24th at 7:30pm. Enjoy marching bands, floats, baton twirling groups, costumes and more. The parade begins on Lefever Street.

New Oxford Annual Harvest Day & Parade on Saturday, October 28th, includes several family-friendly events like craft and food vendors, free kid’s activities like face and pumpkin painting, a bounce house, and more, and a big parade with floats, marching bands, antique vehicles, and Santa Claus!

Pumpkin Patch Train, operated by Everett Railroad, is a steam-powered ride between Hollidaysburg and Kladder with a special stop at a pumpkin patch! Enjoy the beautiful autumn foliage from the train and each child will receive a small pumpkin and a sticker decorating kit at the pumpkin patch. Check online for ticket information and schedule.

Lincoln Caverns Ghosts and Goblins Tours is Pennsylvania’s ultimate haunted experience! The 34th annual Ghosts & Goblins Tours packs in triple the terror with the Haunted Caverns, Haunted Trail and the Haunted Hayride. Tours are available Friday and Saturday nights through October.

There are plenty of events happening throughout Central Pennsylvania near many of our communities. Be sure to mark your calendars so you don’t miss out! To learn more about our new home communities throughout Central and South-Central Pennsylvania, visit us online at www.SAHomeBuilder.com.
