Nittany LionEveryone from Happy Valley is well aware of the Blue-White Game tradition that serves as the University’s unofficial spring reunion. This year’s game is especially important since it is James Franklin’s debut as the new head coach for the Nittany Lions. Plus, since attendance and parking is completely free AND the forecast for Saturday is 68 degrees and sunny, we wouldn’t be surprised if attendance this year breaks the 70,000 number, making this one of the most attended spring football games in the nation.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the weekend’s biggest events:

Saturday, April 12

9:00 a.m.: Blue-White FanFest kicks off on Curtain Road and features vendors, games, snacks and fun activities for the entire family. Read More→

Martin's Ridge homeThinking of small town living typically evokes images of places far from civilization. Pennsylvania, however, with its historic towns, country views and lovely main streets is unique because most of these idyllic small towns are located close to some of the nation’s largest and most cosmopolitan cities.

Waynesboro, PA is no different. Old Victorian homes, historic barns and ornate churches dot the landscape of this close-knit community. But looks can be deceiving.  Waynesboro offers the ultimate in commuting convenience to Hagerstown, MD and Frederick, MD in addition to award-winning schools. And now…brand new homes in Martin’s Ridge starting from the $180,000s.  Read More→

Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Home

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Spring CleaningWhether your home is brand new or 50 years old, the advent of spring is the perfect time to think about sprucing up your home and getting your spring cleaning game on! S&A Homes did some scouring of our own online to help come up with the best of the best, and we discovered that some spring cleaning checklists are 100+ items long. All we can say to that is good luck checking all of those off!

We know you’re busy, so we’ve boiled it down to just eight helpful tips to save you time and energy:

1.   Start at the top, and work your way down! Ever clean your floors just to discover they’re full of dust once you vacuum upstairs? Starting on the second floor ensures you don’t end up doing the same job twice.
2.   Invest in a plastic tote that can carry all of your cleaning supplies, paper towels, rags and sponges.  The only downside is you won’t burn nearly as many calories running up and down the stairs for something you forgot!
3.   Start with a large trash bag. Eliminating the junk room by room will be an instant mood enhancer! Read More→

Central PA Home ShowWhy wait for the forces of nature to deliver spring this year? Attendees at this weekend’s 30th Annual Central PA Home & Garden Show at the Bryce Jordan Center will be treated to a 60-foot long outdoor park feature in the middle of the arena floor. In what is sure to be the show’s most extravagant focal point to date, this year’s theme is Centre Park. The show will offer attendees a chance to sit down on a number of park benches and enjoy a water feature, landscaping, gazebo and more and maybe for a moment, pretend warmer weather is finally here.

But there’s more to the home show than that. Held from Friday, March 14 to Sunday, March 16, the show will also feature a number of seminars dedicated to building with energy efficiency in mind or obtaining a home construction loan. Some of the presentations will even give lookers more insight in today’s most popular home trends like outdoor kitchens and geothermal heating. Read More→

GettysburgIt seems that top ten lists dominate every industry and every website. So, when Harrisburg ended up on the top ten places in the US to land a job according to Beyond.com, we were curious. Having operated as a home builder in Harrisburg for more than 40 years, we are well aware of the region’s employment opportunities and benefits, but not everyone who has heard of the area is as familiar. So, we did a little homework and here’s what we came up with:

1.    The area’s top hiring industries are Transportation & Logistics, IT, and Healthcare & Medical. Not so ironically, those industries just happen to be the most in demand of new talent. Thus, the hiring has been steadily increasing throughout Harrisburg.
2.    The unemployment rate is among the lowest in the nation – just six percent. Read More→

Introducing Cedarbrook!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Cedarbrook homeFor anyone who works in the Frederick, MD or Hagerstown, MD area, the unfortunate reality is that home prices are not always proportionate to pay. It is virtually impossible to own a brand new single-family home without spilling over $300,000 and then add in commuting expenses on top of that, and living in this area can be very expensive.

For anyone else who has echoed these same thoughts, there’s a new player in town. Well, just outside of town if you want to be really specific. Cedarbrook is located exactly one mile above the PA/MD state line just off of I-81 and offers home buyers an alternative to a normally expensive housing market. Read More→
